Candid Journalism
Our Mission
Candid is a student-led organization that aims to use the power of the arts as a method for communication and collaboration among students in the San Fernando Valley, while connecting students directly to art and advocacy opportunities.
Through an online multimedia journal featuring a range of art forms from visual art and poetry to films, Candid works to uplift student voices regarding global issues and/or topics through art.

We also work to give students opportunities to grow as artists and connect them with professionals in their desired field. From arts opportunities published in our newsletter to workshops held by a variety of experts in all realms of the art and media world, we hope to foster a community of driven and passionate youth dedicated to the arts and to learning.
Our Founder
Maya Shtangrud
Maya is a high schooler and art-nerd based in the San Fernando Valley of LA. As ACLU SoCal’s Arts Justice Fellow and founder/co-chair of LAUSD’s Arts Advisory Council, Maya is committed to ensuring students across California have access to a quality and impactful arts education. Aside from fighting for arts education in schools, she enjoys participating in different forms of art as well, from singing in a choir and learning her favorite jazz songs on the piano, to visiting museums and making advocacy films.
Our Team.
As a student run journal, our project is made possible because of the incredible students on our team!
